Lotte Reiniger The style for Lotte Reinigers shadow puppet films are created by stop frame or cell aniamtion, each frame is shot individualy. Her animations show depth using layers of transpency for background images, with the closest being opaque silhoettes. Each piece for the animations have been hand made, cut from black card with each body part of the characters cut apart from the body and then held together with wire hinges which alowed the body parts to move. Her later works have moved on from silhoettes to colour, but still kept the teh same style throughout.
You see how elegant and refined the silhouettes are in this work - you need to be as elegant and as refined! It's a challenge - but the right kind of challenge for a major project, especially as we'll be looking closely at the production design of your piece.
